march 14

today was the first day of 5 hour exam. where i was undertaking the task of looking for students whom needed help with sewing machines and spraying drawing the exam period. i felt myself that i was under the exam again no talking to food and drink and no music ... i have to take a number of students to a spraypainting point and fix  a couple of machine.
it was nice to see how the student got on with this different type of teaching/exam as it was more art than the have done thought-out one day and they weren't aloud to do what they would 'normally' be able to do in a class type teaching

The Other Side of Teaching - MARKING!!!!

Wednesday 21st February

Today activities are all about the marking of work.
How are students marked? How do you decide?
They are all questions which I have learnt about today.

I had to mark a group of 30 sketchbooks in the morning using I detailed marking scheme that focuses on the experimentation work that the students need to complete, as the teacher taught her lesson.
Then I had to mark them again with the teacher so I understood where I went wrong with un-grading and over-grading. I now understand that teaching you have to take yourself out of the equation. I seemed to be not seeing the techniques and developed methods and over-grading the topic I liked.
I learned that I need to look into the techniques that students used and ever if I don't like the work it still might have I high grade.

Quote of the Day: ART IS SUBJECTED ....

Wednesday 8th February (FIRST DAY)

My first full day of working in a school.

I was really nervous going to my first lesson...
I started in the morning at quarter to nine with the teacher of art combined. Her group is one of the biggest in the art block with over 30 in the class. As it was I big class she introduced me then set me out to gather faces to names doing the register for her.
This week was prefect for me to start my placement as they have all been given their exam papers and starting a new project. So then I was set to walk around groups and given them ideas on how to start their projects. most were quiet and aloud me to ask question about what they are planning on looking at? and why they had chosen to do it? but i did have to work hard on I couple so that they trusted me with there idea. the teacher ended up putting me with these few as she wanted me to know what it would be look if they where my class. I was able to ask them questions and after getting to know them and listening to how they like to work, I got them going with ideas and techniques which they then undertook.
Though-out the day I was with this class. I looking forward to next week to see if any of the pupils have done any of the work inspired by the ideas that we came up with.

Until next week...
